AWS Re:Invent 2019 Interviews - Fivetran and Perimeter81

We all know the story that data is a strategic asset and this is causing companies to become IT organizations at their core. Companies are also increasingly leveraging SaaS applications. Companies now often have hundreds of SaaS vendors. With all of this comes data sprawl.

Since data is critical to organizations now, collecting and analyzing that data is key, but that can be a challenge when the data lives on many different platforms in many different forms, so bringing all of it together into a data warehouse can be hard.

This is the problem that Fivetran looks to help solve. They provide a wide range of automated data connectors, integrated transformations and prebuilt standardized schemas.

I spoke with Will Pericak, who I later learned on LinkedIn used to play in the NFL for the Seahawks, Bills and Chicago’s own Bears. That also explains why I am shooting this interview looking up at him, because he was way taller than me.

One thing I always like to do at these shows is to check out the small up and coming vendors. Normally, Re:Invent has a section for all of these folks. This year that was missing. There were some booths scattered around the floor that had more early stage companies, but I think that the cost of floor space at this show has become prohibitive for some of these smaller companies, which is a real shame. AWS has become a victim of its own success.

One of the earlier stage companies that I was able to talk with was Perimeter81. They are an Israeli based network security as a service company, providing a Secure Access Service Edge and a Software defined perimeter for building zero trust networks.
